| Hot Date Installation Problem!! HELP ME!!
Hi,
I currently am running Win. XP Pro and have plenty of memory. I have installed The Sims, Livin Large, and House Party in that order and had no problems. Unfortunately, when I install Hot Date within 2 seconds of the installation an error message pops up:
An installation support file C:\Document-1...setup.inx could not be installed. Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
I have no virus programs running in the background. I'm really just getting frustrated and need some serious help. Contacting EA technical support has proven impossible!
Please Help!

Hi Katie, sorry for the delay and welcome to TechIMO - We are a friendly bunch who will hopefully sort out your problem.
It sounds like the install program is having problems getting the info from the disk. The data error (CRC) sounds like a dodgy disk.
I know you have disabled your virus scanner, but have you disabled any firewalls, scanner cover open detecters, packet writing programs and any non essential task bar programs and any other applications before install?
Is the disk clean? - i.e. is there any dust on it etc.
Has this disk been previously installed?, or is it new? - If new, it could be a corrupt disk in which case return it for a replacement.
Have you had any other problems with any other random disks - is so, it may pay you to clean your CD/DVD rom.
You could try the support pages over on http://thesims.ea.com/index.html - and click help.
I can't think of anything else obvious, but hopefully that has helped. |

I also think you have a defective disc. But CRC errors are also caused by downloaded files that are cut off before they're complete. I doubt this is your problem, but have you installed anything off the net for The Sims?

not your problem. read the release notes for hot date. maxis and EA dont support winxp from hot date on. never got it on mine after 3 reinstalls of the OS. some say they get it to work though. |

I've installed it on WinXP Pro on 2 different computers without any problems. But more importantly, CRC errors have nothing to do with your operating system - it means that a file size isn't correct, hence, it's got to be a bad disc or download. |

Hot Date crashes when I try to install it...what should I do?
The first thing you should do is to make sure you don't have any other programs running in the background while you are installing. Make sure to turn off any virus scanners or similar programs. Also, make sure you have the lastest virus definition files for your virus scanner.
If this doesn't help your problem, we recommend you visit EA Technical Support
at http://techsupport.ea.com/ or click here , but if you need to speak to someone immediately, call:
US: (650) 628-4311
M-F 8:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m., 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. PST
Australia: 61 (7) 55 612828 (95 cents per minute) 7 days a week 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
BTW i retract my statement about hotdate...i had a cracked version and it said that in the release notes. should be fine. |

Just some of my observations... Compatibility
While The Sims, Livin' Large, House Party, and Hot Date do not officially support Windows XP (they simply hadn't tested it under that OS - doesn't mean it isn't compatible), the Vacation and Unleashed expansion packs show official WinXP compatibility on the box. Performance
Also, The Sims is a hard drive intensive game. So if it's running slow, check that your hard drive is working as fast as it should. I had a system that wasn't using the right IDE drivers (or running in a slower, PIO mode) and the sound & animation were terrible. It was a dualboot system with another Windows version, which ran great. When I fixed the hard drive in the problematic OS, everything was fixed.

Hi there,
I'm unfortunately having a similar problem. After only recently getting back into the Sims again through Simcity 4 (wonderful game) Hot Date won't install. EA actually has a section on this in their website, although the wording is a bit different (and mine from the original posters)
It's not a CRC error, nor (from EAs website) does it say 'could not be found'; instead it says: Quote:
E:/../setup.inx could not be installed
The parameter is incorrect
| Of course, I tried the regular solution to the setup.inx problem, which was delete everything under Temp and try again. Alas, doesn't work. Would anyone here know another way to bypass it?
Thanks!
David. |

If you see katies post you see that a file in c: drive is causing crc error. If the file transfers from the cd to c: drive it has to be functional on the cd.
A file with crc error should be unreadable from the cd.
Are you sure your account has administrative rights? Installs (some of them) will not work with regular accounts.
I've had hot date running on xp. Sorry, my wife had

It's admin access, I'm the only one who uses it It's just that since her solution didn't work, and the error message is a bit different (Data Error versus Incorrect Parameter) I thought there might be (hopefully) a different solution. |
