Baulders Gate is a good game with many Flaws IMO this is due to the engine and how npcs and enemys move around the maps. At times you may just be wanting an npc to sraight out follow you but they caught on objects and this can be fustrating.
Otherwise is a very big game with many quests and things to do, there are also some things that will make you laugh. This is a very good game.
Baulders Gate 2 didn't really do much for me as it seemed like the same again but with different scenery.
Torment is a game I always wanted to get but never got around to it. Torment runs on the same but slightly modified engine of Baulders Gate, most reviewers said this was a far supieor game.
Otherwise I would go out and get Neverwinter Nights |

No - way - if you want roleplaying, get Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. No doubt, the VERY best RPG I have EVER played IMO. Better than Either Baldur's or Neverwinter. Plus, the game and its first expansion can be had for 35 bucks as it has now gone Gold.
Just my .02 |

Just my .02 | jrock, I believe Morrowind to be a better game than NWN too and possibly one of the best games I have ever played, but the reason why I recomended Never Winter Nights is that is much closer to Baulders Gate than Morrowind is and super gerbil was asking about Baulders Gate. |

I haven't played Morrowind, but I'm quite addicted to the BG games. The first one was a good start, but things get really interesting with the sequel and its expansion. Much more NPC interactions, more possibility to roleplay your alignment, 3 different endings (same movie, but different story told), and much more.
The only complains I have about the first one is that you can reach the max level without completing all the expansion levels and the characters move too slow (got a boost in BG2 though). |

Definitely buy baldurs gate.
Yes although it has some problems (ie pc pathfinding) it has a very engrossing story, wonderfully scripted characters, an excellent system and many quests. Also as it is old it will be cheap.
I cant stress how much I enjoyed Baldurs Gate. I have NWN and morrowind but I would probably play BG and BG 2 again before the others.
