| Mohaa server through linksys router and cable modem. How?????
MOHAA
Looks like I am a networking idiot so treat me as such.
How do I hook up a MOHAA server with cable modem and linksys router.
I am tooooo stupid to live.
Any answers should be complete and written as if I am a two year old child. |

All you do to start a server is Click Start game under multiplayer options and click the Dedicated Server option. Now it will close out of MOHAA but it will have that little console on your screen, just leave it there...thats the server doing its thing. |

How does it route through the router. I also do not wish to run dedicated at the moment.
But how do I define the ports and all that kind of rot.
It does not seem to be visable to other players when they look for it. |

Players cannot see your server, because of the router's firewall.
If you so desire, you can 'disable' the firewall for your computer (server). By doing this, it is known as DMZ. You lose all the benefits of a firewall, BUT you can host your server.
Here's a great page I've used before, but ignore the "static IP" references. You are only concerned about setting DMZ to your computer. DMZ for Router
If you would like to only forward the ports, you should click the "Forwarding" tab in your router configuration. You will need to know the ports MOHAA uses (I don't know them offhand.)
Let us know if/how that works out if you try it. Post back if you need clarification, etc...

If you aren't interested in opening up all your ports (via DMZ), then Forward the TCP ports below.
Find your IP. Go to a command prompt and type 'ipconfig' (no quotes) and note your IP (probably 192.168.0.x)
Using the "Forwarding" tab in your router configuration, forward the following ports to the IP you noted from above:
12200
12201
12202
12203
12204
(some people continue up to 12220)
If you are using GameSpy, you'll need to forward a few more ports

Game spy
6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)
MOHAA
12200
12201
12202
12203
12204
With this information I opened the following due to limited field constraints.
Game Spy
27900~29901
6500~6667
13139~13139
3787~3787
Mohaa
12200~12204
Now My question is why is my server not appearing in game spy's search engine is there something I have to set in the config files.
I also could not get it to appear in the internal search engine of mohaa I dont even know if these are different places.
However my friend was able to nail up a connection to my dedicated server by directly inputing the IP.
Another thing I noticed which was wierd is the first 2 or 3 minutes of play on a non dedicated server gets constant slow connection alerts. After that it seems to smooth out. Even when I am alone in my own non dedicated server it is choppy and strobe like. |

Im was under the impression that you had to have a dedicated server for other people to see your server... |

seta sv_gamespy "1"
^ must be in your config file. You can do this by checking the "Gamespy server" check box right before you launch the game.
I wonder how many people on this forum play mohaa as much as i do

you dont have to be dedicated to host a server.
You will however host a very laggy game if you don't dedicate it.
If your on cable, don't try to host more than 8-10 clients andset your sv_maxrate to 6000.
unless you have a T1 or better you can't host this game very well. |
