Clanimo: Lets Raise Some money :-)
Now we all love tachyons server, but the problem is bandwidth, we cannot play with more than 7 or 8 people before it lags. Now we all want our own server but they dont come cheap, but i have come across an extrodinary deal. $85 dollars a month for a 20 person private server for Battlefield 1942 (that is incredibly cheap, compared to everywhere else (most wanting 120-160 a month)
I know none of us are rich or like paying for this but if we all send in 5 bucks a month this server can be ours. I will do this, and nunya will also (master chief too
), but we need support from the rest of you. We can setup a paypal account or just send money orders to nunya if we decide to go with this. I dont want to hear that your 15 and dont have a job, and you're the poorest son of a b***h on the face of the earth. just say if you would be willing to pay 5 bucks a month to do this.
This is more or less directed towards members of clanimo, but if you would like to help us pay, that would be greatly appreciated.

What do 'they' do for you? How would we(ClanIMO) setup the games and stuff? Is it remotely controlable? Or does it just have a random loop of maps that it runs?
What are the specs on the server? And how much bandwidth?
I may be asking alot of questions, but I want to make sure that it's best for the Clan overall...
But, once I know some more about it, you can count me in.

david, your questions are absolutley valid, and you deserve to know what you are paying for.
here is the site http://www.bf1942servers.com/ and i have e-mailed them the questions that you have asked here. i should have an answer by tomorrow.
I sent them this:
Dear Divo.net,
As i have said before, i am representing www.clanimo.com, but we have a few questions about your services.
What do you do for us? How would Clanimo setup the games, etc.?
Is it remotely controlable? Or does it just have a random loop of maps that it runs?
What are the specs on the server? And how much bandwidth? Is there a setup fee?
Thank you,
My Name

How is the ping times on those public servers they are advertising? Why dont you east coast guys try out some of those IP's and check them out. Thier servers appear to be all west coast which is good for me. No one wants to pay for a 150+ ping though which you east coasters might get.. I like my pings < 50ms

hopefully we can grow the clan large enough that in time we will have an excess in the dues department. we need to think about how this will be used. plus keep records of what we have recieved from whom.
1. Paying members will play before non-paying members.
as for excess money (Hey I can dream can't I?) when we have enough we can either have a contest and prize of some sort, or pay the next months rent. (and if I really dream we rent another server or a bigger one, support other games. Who knows you could be getting in on the ground floor of a gaming empire. MWAAAHAHA...)lol

lol shawshank we'll just have to wait and see.
I have to get the game and enjoy it afterall.
Isn't there some sort of way you guys can raise funds from a sponsor or something? Be creative and find out something.
See if you can get some more visitors at your site and see if a company like Bawls would want to sponsor you for a little bit a month.

Be sure to mention that anyone with a good hearty donation will be getting rcon status right?
-
June 24th, 2003, 04:56 PM #16
i have no idea what rcon is, but we will give you a big thx, and you will be first priority on the server. if its full, well kick a person who didnt send in money to let you play.
mike, you seem like a good guy, and you know what good guys need? battlefield 1942. you should run out to circuit city and buy it right now, and start playing with the rest of timo.

Here is the e-mail i recieved back from the company, sounds pretty good.
Hello-
We supply the physical hardware and the bandwidth required to run your
server.
What do you mean by 'setup the games'? We do most of the setup for
you, such as installing the server and bringing it online.
You have full remote access to the server with RemoteConsole (which
covers admin tools such as CTFE Kicker, as well as BF Remote Manager),
as well as FTP access. FTP access allows you to modify the map cycle,
as well as most server settings.
We run all of our Battlefield servers on Dual Athlon 2400+ systems with
1.5GB or more of memory.
We use a BandwidthChokeLimit of 512k on all servers. This is more than
enough bandwidth for Battlefield on Internet. In fact, using more than
this generally causes it to flood out lower bandwidth clients. With
this settings, you're welcome to use the server as often as you wish.
There are no setup fees for any of our services. Thanks.

Well that's pretty much what rcon does (I think that's Q3 or CS term) pretty much so you can set people to be Admins on the server. (Low lvl priority admins)
Is there a demo I can check out?
BTW That sounds like a good server host.

mike if you give a hearty dontation ($10-$15 and up) you can have rcon, or whatever its called access.......did you go to circuit city yet???
