No sound from Vice City...Can Anyone Help?
This is a question originally from runawaytom...he's new here at TechIMO so I thought I'd post his question in a new thread and see if we can help him out.

First off, tell us about your system...what version of Windows are you running on, how fast is your processor, how much ram, that sort of thing...
Second, I take it this is the only game you have trouble with? In other words, the sound works fine in every other game but when you try to play Vice City you don't get any?Last edited by Gouki; July 22nd, 2003 at 10:10 PM.

Maybe an updated drivers for the sound card will help and possibly installing the latest patch for VC.

What audio card does he use? If it's old it might not work.....my Alienware machine has an Audigy2 card, that it's like i'm in a theatre and the sound is really high quality!

Is it an original copy or a backup copy?
Also, I think the game has like different audio options like surround, and all that stuff. Just check if it works in normal 3d mode or something like that! (sorry for the vague response ... I'm not in front of the game right now!).boo!

Since you say it's a backup copy, have you tried uninstalling it, and reinstalling it from the originals, and running it from the originals to see it can be played?

July 24th, 2003, 10:40 AM #11backup?!? A backup you made or a backup you downloaded???Originally posted by runawaytom

Maybe the "backup" is damaged.!boo!

July 24th, 2003, 10:56 AM #12I would think that if his backup copy was damaged, then it wouldn't play at ALL much less be able to even install the game.Originally posted by eagle1

The protection that protects the game utilizies Sony's Securom *NEW* v4. a whole bunch of numbers. Very sophisticated. I bought the game from gogamer.com for $40, and it's just sitting here next to me collecting dust because my computer can't run it!!!!!!
<-- insert very mad
Edit: Why I don't ask for tech support is because I **think** it's my video card not handling it, because my brother can run the game with a Geforce 4 TI4200 64mb while my Geforce 2 GTS can't do it. Another factor that leads me to think of that is because I bought Rise of Nations at the same time, and I can barely run the game
I have to cancel the intro movie before it starts or else the game won't run.

Hi Gouki! You know what I mean by backup (if it is a downloaded backup!
.)
And actually, I have a backup of EA's NBA Live 2003 and the backup was poorly made (by me I might add!
) and it gives me some install errors but you can hit ignore and you can play the game fine!
boo!

I have seen "backups" of GTA VC, generally there isnt any audio in the car or in the cut scenes to minimise the download size.
Sound familiar?

Good point there Cred0!
runawaytom in order for us to help you out, you have to be completely truthful and list unless your entire specifications of your computer.
-
July 24th, 2003, 01:38 PM #17Well most "backups" these days are actual CD images and the only thing that needs to be done to get it to work is to copy over a cracked executable file.Originally posted by eagle1
Hi Gouki! You know what I mean by backup (if it is a downloaded backup!

Actually no...since broadband is widely available to most ppl, minimizing the dl is no longer an issue, so doing a "backup" of that sort isn't so much of a thing anymore.Originally posted by CRED0

I hope this thread gets back on topic soon...I fear I'm treading on thin ice!

No worries Gouki.
We are still on topic, we just need to know what version he has because Vice City works great in the PC I'm using (XP2800, 1gig Ram, FX5200, SB Live, etc...) and it works pretty good on an old system too (1.3ghz, AIW 7500, SB Live, 256 Ram... etc.).
Or it can easily be his sound card (which he still didn't mentioned which sound card he had!!). But we need to know everything!
boo!

Ummm...couple things.
1) Read the FAQ's for this site before posting...then you'd know that warez and illegal activity is not promoted here.
2) Maybe if you actually went out and bought the games instead of stealing them they would work for you. Ever think of that?
3) Watch the language...this is a family site and cursing/swearing is not allowed...For Some it's the Path...not the Goal.
