Tenebrae 1.04 for Quake is out.
http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/
It looks pretty sweet when you download the new textures and the new skins.
To use them you need to have Quake installed, then install Tenebrae, then create a couple of folders.
In your C:>quake folder, there should be a folder named Tenebrae.
Create a couple of folders:
C:>Quake\Tenebrae\Override
C:>Quake\Tenebrae\Override\Progs
You'll need the full version of Quake
You can get Tenebrae at:
http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/inde...e=download.txt
You'll also want to download the vis patch, so as to water vis all the original Quake levels to work properly with Tenebrae. Get it at the same link as above. Once you download it, run install and it will know what to do.
You'll want to download the new textures from the
Quake retexturing project from :
http://www.quake.cz/winclan/qe1/pg04.htm
Click the link that says Episode I (including E1M1). It says it's a 38 MB download, but it's really 66 MB. It has textures for the whole game, not just the first episode.
Once you have them, unzip them to your C:>Quake\Tenebrae\Override folder
You can get the new skins for Tenebrae at
http://www.planetquake.com/pandemonium/tenebrae/
You'll have to download each monster one at a time, but the Vore and Hellknight both work in Tenebrae 1.04
Once you have them you'll want to unzip them to C:\Quake\Tenebrae\Override\Progs
There are still a few bugs - misaligned textures and some glowing textures that don't look quite right. I'm going to work on fixing them myself, so if it really bothers you, let me know and I'll let you know what I've got so far. E3M3 is kinda broken, too.
What Tenebrae does is add stencil shadows and per pixel lighting to the original quake engine, much like the upcoming Doom game will have. So that said, you'll need a fairly powerful machine to run Tenebrae with good speed. The more video card you can throw at it, the better. I run fairly decently with a GeForce 4 Ti4400.
Also, this has spawned off a very good looking stand alone, open source game engine, Tenebrae 2.

Check out some of the screen shots! They're still a couple of months away from releasing a public beta, but I'll be keeping track.
Rumor is that Tenebrae 1.04 is multiplayer compatable, if you want to tweak it a bit. I don't personally know anybody who still likes Quake, so I haven't tested any multiplayer.
Ok, I typed all this out, so give it a shot and tell me what you think!
