Counter-Strike and XP... ???
I just got WinXP, and CS seems to be crashing often after about 20 minutes. Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me?

I have a few friends with XP and they havnt had any more problems then usual with CS since upgrading. Halflife in my experience is pretty buggy anyway. If you have an ATI video card, get that ATI fix patch they put out with the new version of CS.
Try reinstalling it if that dont help.

try running it in win98 compatibility mode. the engine might be a bit happier at that point.

I game in WinXP full time
And I play CS alot.
I have no problems crashing in game, but it does crash (mouse freezes, cant alt-ctrl-del) when exiting CS once every so often..like 1% of the time.
Geforce2 GTS with latest NVidia drivers. If you have a Geforce type card, try to upgrade drivers. If not, try to update the video driver you have anyways. It may work.
I think maybe its only when I serve a game. I still have to test that out a bit.

well the engine was built to best be run on 98, so compatibility mode should smooth most of the issues.

I run CS on WinXP all the time with a GeForce 2 MX-400 64MB and I don't have any problems at all. Though, like Pakaraatzi said, the Half-Life engine is quite buggy sometimes.

I have a Geforce 2 MX/400. Well I tried running it in a different compability mode (WinME), but it still freezes up.
Wut drivers should I try now? I have the 22.50's now, but maybe thats the problem?Last edited by FlyingHamster; January 7th, 2002 at 08:08 PM.

Counter-Strike still crashes after about 20 minutes of playing, and this didn't happen in WinME. I have set it to Win98 compatibilty mode too.
I think it may be my 22.50 drivers. What drivers do you guys have that have XP and CS? I dont know which ones to try. I also have ZoneAlarm as my firewall, and I set it to low when I play.ThE GreatwhitE~

Have you updated your Video drivers and your DirectX drivers to the lastest and greatest? Thats most likely what the problem is? at least for me...

I am having similar problems with halflife online as well
I just installed XP PRO on a Duron 950 with Visontek GTS-V video board.
I am running halflife in WIN98 compatible mode but it still freezes with no mouse no Cnt alt del and usually the sound is repeating over and over.
I know this doesn't solve anything but I would love to know the solution too
