Is John Carmack the Anti-Christ?
If so, count me as one of his followers.
I just watched an interview for Doom 3 and I still haven't stopped drooling. The game looks like it is going to be absolutely great. The graphics look wonderful and the setting and lighting look almost real.
I know now that Trent Reznor is doing the sound for the game. I think he did the sound for the first Quake game also. If sound can be scary, Reznor is the man to do it.
I thought Doom 1 was pretty freaky to play back in 1996. Doom 3 makes the original look like a joke. I'm almost afraid to play Doom 3. I may lose sleep over this one:-)
I was just wondering what you were all thinking about this game. Let me know anything you have heard, good or bad.

I thought John-Romero was the main man.. wasn't he supposed to make you his female dog or something?
"Even simple features like strafing aren't included."???? No strafing in doom3??
Graphics look top notch.. just will have to see how it plays.. if anything I'll at least get the demo

I couldn't care less about Half Life 2, DoomIII is what I want! Reznor is doing music for DoomIII, should be good.

I was in love with the first two Doom's. I remember playing DoomII and finding every secret on every level. Oh, the memories...

I think the "no-strafing" might actually make the game better in a way. They could have added that option with ease but they left it out on purpose. Now you can't just peak around the corner into rooms, you have to commit. It might make the game more scary.
I can't wait for this game. I think Reznor is doing all of the sound for the game, not just the music.

I was able to strafe in doom III alpha, I would be lost with out it other wise

There is aiming and strafing as far as i'm aware, who knows if that guy is correct who wrote that, I would doubt it.
Even doom I and II had strafing didn't it?
I hope carmack doesn't manage to screw this game up if that is true.* ¨ )

I think no-strafing is true, I've read it a couple of places. Maybe they felt the game was more frightening without strafing?

I think no strafing is both a new eliment of surprise and a startegy. It will make things more scary when they are up in your face. Also alot of users didnt strafe before-this balances the play alot. Now you can SEE the guy picking you off at 90 yards everytime you respawn.

Is John Carmack the anti-Christ? heck ya, and Gabe Newell is Jesus!
yeah, D3 is gonna have some mindblowin graphics, but that no strafing thing better be BS. Its totally unrealistic and ruins a huge tactical element in the game. If they do implement it, 20 bucks says hackers will have a fix for it within a week

not to worried about them saying there being no strafing.. it was in the alpha.. and give ppl a night or 2, and there will be some way to hack the strafe option back in.. so again not to worried about it.. but still can't wait for it =)

Yeah, I'd rather they implament slow-strafing instead of no-strafing. Especially for Multiplayer, which I plan to play. C'mon, how do you expect to dodge fire? By runing backwards?

I guess I'm just going to have to wait and see what the game play is like. The original Doom didn't have strafing and no one seemed to mind back then. I know we are all use to using the strafing but maybe it will be ok without. Maybe.
I finally saw the E3 trailer and I don't think I will care if there is strafing or not. It looks nerve-racking.

The original doom did have strafing. Wolfenstein too. It's been an integral part of FPS since they were born. Doom and wolfenstein had to do it with a button that you would hold, plus the way you wanted to go... But they all had it.
The D3 Alpha had it too. I think everyone's just making a mountain out of a mole-hill. It'll have it, just like every other shooter known to man.

No strafing is a stupid idea, a soldier would do it, and if it the same guy in DOOM III, he is a marine, he would strafe, if they don't allow strafing I ain't buying it!
so there!.

Soldiers strafe? LOL! I have yet to see someone side steping across a battle field to dodge bullets. It's a game where you go to Mars and shoot demons, let keep the real world out of this;-)
My brother is a Marine. I'll ask him if the Corps taught him to strafe:-) LMAO

I heard a while back that Reznor actually quit the project ??
Not sure if they replaced him or who with but there was a blurb about it last summer that TOOL would be finishing the music. I will try to find the story.
'04 is going to be a year to remember for gaming for sure. D3, HL2, BFVietnam, and maybe even Quake4. Hell, we might even see DNF !!! yeah right...
Almost forgot, I was in ROTC for 3 years in High School (Rangers) and I heard that if I stayed for my 4th year I would have had a chance to learn basic Strafing. You see, the only way one can truly master it is if you start young and .... ok I'll shut up.Last edited by BFsoLo.; January 8th, 2004 at 02:13 AM.

Found this so far ...

And this :
"Thursday 5.15.03 NIN- Doom3 Update 00:55
Good and Bad news...
Trent Reznor is no longer involved with ID software's Doom3 project. The length of time needed to complete the gaming project has taken longer than expected. Reznor is now working full-time on the next NIN record and word is that recording is going very well. Stay tuned!
To clarify... Trent's music/sound will not be available for release in the retail game or in any further game demos. "

And Finally ... I guess ...
"Vrenna now scoring Doom 3?
ROBOT FRANK sent in word of something interesting in Game Informer Magazine, particularly in their "Loose Lips" section:
"...Whats that sound? Whatever it is, it isn't Trent Reznor doing the Doom 3 soundtrack. Loose Talk has heard that the Nine Inch Nails singer is no longer composing music for the project. Interestingly, ex-Nine Inch Nails memeber (and American McGee's Alice composer) Chris Vrenna will now be handling the project."
There is no official comment from the Tweaker camp, but definitely makes for good news on the Doom 3 front. Speaking of Chris Vrenna and soundtracks, the limited edition signed 7" Alice/Matrix vinyl is still available for a limited time.
500 numbered copies - signed by Chris Vrenna and American McGee - have been pressed on blue vinyl. Side A features a remix of “Wonderland Woods” from the score to the cult classic American McGee’s Alice. Side B consists of the original song “Take The Pill” from the blockbuster Enter The Matrix, produced and composed by Vrenna.

Hehe well I can't wait for HL2 and Doom3 so I can test out my 5.1 speakers. Evil demons from HELL creeping up behind me and then I stick a small blade out from my boot and kick it until it dies a horrible bloody deat.
And D3 better allow you to strafe, it would be retarded if it didn't.
