Prince of Persia 3D & WinXP problems

    Hi,

I just bought on ebay 'Prince of Persia 3D' and it won't install on WinXP. Tried searching web and found out that it needs a patch and latest graphics drivers. I did both: downloaded and installed POP3D patch and latest nVidia nForce2 drivers ver.3.13.

    Didn't help.
Anybody knows what else can I do? Any advice? Anybody has similar problem?

I have Shuttle nForce 2 IGP motherboard (MN31N).

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it gives me an error when trying to start the program (after installation). It asks if I want to send it to Microsoft. I choose No. I don't see much help from them. But it's a very lengthy list of codes...

nforce2 drivers are not graphics drivers, they're the mobo chipset drivers.

If you have nvidia card, get the detonator drivers. They're graphics drivers.

Well, nForce drivers are graphics drivers as well. The package includes graphics drivers too. Sometimes they are not as uptodate as separate nVidia graphics (detonator) drivers, but I've tried that too. Didn't help. The problem is in something else

Anyway, please keep suggesting. Maybe I find my solution.

I don't have separate graphics card. It's in the chipset.

Yes it is integrated (IGP motherboard)! I already said that, but detonator drivers didn't help!

Well why didn't you say it was gf4mx that was integrated, and that you have already tried detonator drivers.

Let's clear one more thing, are you talking about pop3d (published somewhere like 1999) or pop: sands of time?

I don't think a game released in '99 requires latest drivers for anything.
If you're talking about sands of time, then unfortunately your card is not supported.

Yep, That's Prince of Persia 3D (pop3d). You're right, when released in 1999, I think it didn't support WinXp, but later they released a patch and nVidia also updated their video drivers and according to some posts I've read on gaming forums (dont remember which though), it should be able to play on nVidia platform with WinXP. Unfortunately it still doesn't like my machine and I'm looking if anybody had a similar experience.

Have you tried running it in compatability mode in Windows 98 mode?

    Unfortunately yes (
It doesn't like to play neither in win98 nor in win 95 compatibility modes.

If anybody has a similar motherboard as I do (Shuttle mATX MN31N with nVidia nForce2 IGP - integrated GF4MX) and has successfully installed Prince of Persia 3D, please let me know

Have you tried older drivers ? Some older games dont run on my pc with FE the new 5x.xx nVidia ForceWare drivers.

BTW I dont think compatibility mode settings ever solved anything.

All I can suggest is to try installing the game again. But make the setup file (That's located on the game cd) compatible with Windows 95.

With out knowing what the error is, no ones going to be able to help you... I don't know why so many people expect others to know what the F is wrong on their end, when the people with the problems don't bother giving any helpful information, for crying out loud people its freakin common sense, to provide some helpful background information about the problem or symptoms leading to the problem or description of what the error is, etc.

I have said it before and will say it again, its like people bringing their car into the mechanic, tell him there's a problem with my car, do you know what it is and how to fix it?

with out giving them any details on what the problem is, symptoms, etc, they can't do a damn thing in suggesting a course of action, Grrrrrrrr

Please, use some common sense and post some information that would help us figure out what the problem is.
