| Plz help, 1st time building new system
Right so im done with my compaq machine and beggining april can buy a new case and the stuff to go in.
I plan to keep the drives. And a few other bits. But this is mainly a jump from celeron to athlon. So new stuff is in order
SO, ive starting shopping for components. I made a few selection son this site, which you can see here http://www.microlandtechnology.com/...page=recoverref
The quote is "Wishmaster"
I very much value everybodies opinions on the choices. And in another thread i was told to check An Abit board. ( Abit NF7-S Rev. 2.0 )
Basically i could use everyones input on whats good bad and just plain pants.
Im pretty set on an Athlon and want to be able to overclock the comp and have a good fiddle with bits and bobs.
So any suggestions? hopefully you people can help me make the best decisions. |

What are you looking for as far as a video card? The link doesnt work for me so I'll just suggest one.
9600pro or the 9800np and flash that bugger. They're pretty sweet cards. They're threads here if ya search for them about those cards.
Didnt realize.... post here instead

thanks guys, What kind of compaq did u have trouble with sam? Id need to know before i started buying.
Phrozen. Im already running a gainward 5700 ultra. Golden sample.
Would you say the termaltake is skimping on the supply? What about ram. Its just some generic stuff in atm. What type of RAM would you say. Like the speeds?
edit: i had a look inside my current comp and the RAM is pc2100 128mb and another is 512 but i dont know what kind. So ill scrap the 128 stick and put in either 3200 or 3500. Which would be better for the setup im going for.
Any place i can identify RAM aswell?

I don't think you can put 2 different kinds of ram in your new pc...You have a 128 mb pc2100 stick and a 512 mb pc2100 stick. So your running around 640 mb of ram, you can use both sticks for your new system, but if you do get another motherboard, i would suggest using the 512 stick and buying another pc2100 512 stick, going to pc3200 and pc3500 you would have to use either or, like 2 sticks of 512 3200 or 2 sticks of 3500 if your board supports that high of DDR ram. You can always use one stick of 512 3200 which might do you well depending on brand and depending on what you want to spend money wise. Hope this helps, i am sure more people will help out on this also...
take care
edit: i would suggest using 2 sticks of pc3200 DDR400 of 512 mb and running in dual mode, your board that is listed above supports dual channel mem. I am not sure, but i don't think you can go higher then pc3200 with that board, not sure if pc3500 will underclock itself to run as pc3200? 1 gig of ram should be sufficient.

if you go with that high of mem 3500, you might want to start checking into a new motherboard that will utilize the 3500 capabilities. if you plan on using the MB listed above, it only supports up to 400 ddr which is 3200.
here is link on a decent PS, depending on what your watts are on the one you currently have. http://store.yahoo.com/akidacomputer/acpowsup50du.html |
