    ok, not to panic!

so the pins on the motherboard are "3 pins apart"? In other words they have a missing pin spcae between them?? But the case thingy is just 2 pins wide??

    No big deal.

You just need to take a very small and sharp pointed knife...or a jewelers screwdriver perhaps....and you can lift the little tab thingy that holds the wires in the black thingy from the case. Its a little complicated to do with 2 hands but it can be done....you sort of have to push the wire farther down into the connector a bit to get some free space to get the knife tip in to pry it back up some...then at the same time you have to pull the wire back out...youll see what I mean when you play with it.

You can just lift the tab and pull one of the wires out of the connector from the case and then you just plug the remaining connector to the motherboard and also the now loose wire where it goes. If you are worried about it popping off I guess you could give it a little squeeze with needenose pliers...OR..just put a zip tie around ALL the wires near where they plug onto the motherboard and the collective resistance will keep them all down snugly.

Often I find I have to do the opposite thing....where I have a 3 wire connector from the case but a two wire hookup on the board...so its a matter of finding the proper orientation and shifting the wires around.

And of course remember that if it doesnt work that you probably have the wires on backwards...it wont hurt it that way but it just wont work..so reverse them

    JP

if you had an old bad case or found one in a junk pile..you could simply steal a 3 wire connector, do the trick to get the wires out of it, and transfer your wires over to it for a factory looking job

Figure out wich two of the three are the LED and convert the 2 pin plug into 2 singles. I think the extra pin has to do with a keylock. I just took a keylock out of a computer and did this, but it was a three pin and was able to saw through where the center pin used to be.
