How do I make a link?

Would someone explain to this dummy how to make a link in a forum message. I feel stupid asking this, so please take pity.

As far as I know just type in the address to location you want to link to http://www.dogsonwheels.com etc

I believe you just have to type or copy and addy use http:// or just www .

The easiest way it to just click that button that says "http://"
