cant turn computer back on

i have a weird problem......it may be something stupid i'm missing.......

the other day, when i turned my computer off, i noticed the monitor didnt turn off with it like it usually does (which isnt a big deal). but whats worse...i cant turn the computer back on unless i disconnect the power altogether and plug it back in.

i dont know if or why these to things may be related. but both just started happening a couple days ago......very strange...

does anyone out there have any thought about this?

that happens to my mom's computer after a unexpected shutdown like a powerfaliure....it is to protect the motherboard from getting screwed up if the powersupply fails

not sure why yours would do that on every shutdown....try reseating all of the power connectors....it could be just a loose one...or it sould be a failing psu

If you don't know what you are doing then I don't recommend what Headband said. If you do know what you are doing then go through and try re-seating some stuff and maybe the power connectors but if not don't mess with anything unless you are very careful. You might just want to take it to your local computer repair store...or the better alternative we could help u!!!! :P

The problem could also be a stuck-on power switch...when the switch is depressed to turn it off, and the switch contacts inside do not release (its like a car horn button..on while it is pressed, but the horn is supposed to stop when the button is released).

If the contacts stick in the on/off position while the machine is on..it will turn off..but will not reset itself if the contacts do not release. If you understand how the switch is connected to the motherboard and you can remove the plug-in power on/off sockets...then swap the reset button contacts to try..the reset button and the power on/off button is the same kind and are interchangeable. That might tell you something.
