possessed mouse?
Hey,
Ok, got a very weird problem, I think my mouse is possessed.
Every once in a while, it will all of the sudden move randomly, usually straight to the edge of the screen, and "push" random mouse buttons. For example: I'll just have IE open, on the internet, and the pointer flys off the screen, might or might not highlight the page like the button was held down, and then might or might not pop up right click menus, or click the left mouse button. This is pretty obnoxious when in games!!
Specs..
WinME, windows scroll mouse..still works fine, but is going on 2 yrs old.
I've scanned for viruses, ran adaware with latest updates, ran a trojan program, ran all ms updates, etc..
Anyway, so I've tried to keep an eye on what's running. I've had it happen when the only programs running are zonealarm(on dialup) systray, explorer, and proxyplus.
Could this be my mouse going bad, or a short in the cord or something?(no visible signs btw)
Any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks

Those are strange ones alright. The only help I can think if is to uninstall the mouse software and then do a reinstall. Other than that, the mouse may be in need of a cleaning if it's a ball mouse.

One of my mice acted in a very similar manner. I just replaced the mouse and the problem went away. It's a lot easier than trying to exorcise the demon out of it

I can't make my mind up. It depends on my mood. Back to the mysterious, gothic look again.
Well, I have re-installed the drivers. Didn't make a difference. The mouse is a Dell, BRAND NEW.

I had a cheap Optical Mouse that started in with similar things happening. Sometimes I'd press one of the buttons and get a double click as well.
It was downhill from there and finally it quit entirely. That great "warranty" had expired after something like 30 or 90 days! I gave up and got a Micro$oft with the 5 buttons and should have bought it to start with.
Mice are just not worth messing with when they start acting up. It'll drive you crazy.

My dau has a sure fire way of making mice do this. Just trap the mice cord under the monitor and squash it flat, then tug with extra force umpteen million times on the mouse... creates a demented mouse every time!
And, yes, the only solution seems to be to replace the mouse... tried everything else to fix them, to no avail...
..she's got a Pooh mouse now, so hopefully she'll be more careful, but I doubt it.

thx guys,
yes, it does seem like the best solution is to buy a new mouse. I'm going to try a different for a while, and see.(as long as I can borrow one from somewhere...)

surreal,
seeing as how you seem to be the expert on "flying mice" I have some ?'s.
What is the proper way to launch your mouse?
If gripping by the cord should I "choke up on it " a little?
How far can I expect my mouse to fly?

LOL Surreal - that has to be one of the longest times between a question and an answer!

BTW, did you have a recent experience with a mouse that reminded you of this principle?
Cheers
