Built my first computer...

...and just wanted to take a few moments to say thanks These forums are a great resource and I've learned a lot from just reading and going through various opinions by different posters.

Overall the system went together without a hitch. The only problems I had was getting the heatsink on at first and I accidently had the 2 pin switch for the power button 1 pin off on the mobo heh.

My build was...

Chieftec Black Mid-Tower Case /w 450W PS
Asus A7V8X-MX
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
GeForce FX 5200 128 MB
1x512MB Kingston DDR333 PC-2700
40GB Western Digital HD
48x24x48x16 Combo Lite-On Drive
Floppy Drive
17" CRT Flat Screen Monitor

End price was around $615 shipped from NewEgg.

Was intended to be a budget type system that can handle some games that I like to play. I threw a copy of WinXP Pro and it works like a charm.

My next goal is to read up on overclocking so I can mess around with that next. Thanks again all

go here www.blkviper.com and check out his "xp services configurations"...xp comes with all sorts of "junk" services running that u dont need...such as "remote desktop help session manager" "portable media serial number" "alerter" "messenger" and loads of other stuff....turning them off saves some resources and frees up some cpu cycles.

I use his "safe" configuration on all my new builds...(except I leave on 'system restore'
