Question
Am antenna

My AM radio reception really sucks, and I want to get an internal antenna to improve it.

Has anyone any experience and could recommend something ?

Thanks a ton.

Holy

moly, but that is really interesting reading Riob.

I basically want to tune into 950Khz in Houston TX.

They broadcast Rush Limbaugh, but don't shoot me.
My downstairs receiver receives him just fine, but the upstairs receiver has a lot of noise from other stations.

So would you recommend buying the Radio Shack or building the diamond shaped one that Suureal was talking about ?

It always has fascinated me how the shape of an antenna could "catch" certain waves, but not others. How the wavelength impacts the shape and length of the antenna.

There is so much I don't know and want to. Is there some reading you can point me to ?

*sighs*

thanks,
armadel.

See if you can find a copy of the Amateur Radio Operators Handbook. Your local library may have (or can get) a copy. It has just about anything and everything that you ever wanted to know about radio and antennas...all written with the newbie in mind. (I used to collect these things, and recently gave away a box full of these handbooks...dating back into the early 50's when I got my license).

Most times, the reason one radio will receive and another one will not as well..can be attributed to its internal antenna..and its location. Radio waves are a funny thing. You may hear a signal great in one location, but loose it completely if you move the receiving antenna over a foot or so.

Thanks Bovon

It's that "radio waves are funny things" that intrigues me".
Sounds similar to some of the hassles I have with PCs, I.E.,
no one really knows what the heck is going on inside of them :-).

Try this, oops, that don't work. Try that..

thanks again

Radio, transmission of wave fronts are a totally different technology than computers. You will learn the difference as you progress thru the fog of this technology.

Have fun as you learn..
