Bit torrent file

I downloaded a couple files, and they were in Bit torrent format. I have never heard of this type of file... im guessing its another form of compression, but does anyone know of a tool to extract it?

Torrent files are a way of dispersing and spreading files. You need to download the program "Bit Torrent" which allows you to download the files. Its kind of a p2p program that is self-propogating by definition (you have to upload the file to others as you are downloading new parts). Similar method as the overnet/edonkey and gnutella2 networks, but more specific and self contained than those other networks. The *.torrent file is just the initial file that contains the information so bit torrent can seek out others users with the file and start donwloading

All you have to do is download and install bit torrent, then it will allocate the file type for you and you just double click the file to initiate the download

I understand what you are asking, and it goes like this. What you have downloaded is only a redirect. You cannot DL these files without installing Bit Torrent. after you install BT and run the extraction, then the actuall DL will start. It may be slow when you first start out but the speed will increase as you upload more. BT is more stable than a normal DL and you are much less likely to recieved damaged files even on an unstable network. BT uses your untapped upload bandwidth to pass other files to other users; a bandwidth sharing program much like the processer sharing program Seti@Home.
