I think they use Motorola CPUs. According to Apple.com, they use DDR400 RAM.

To see how fast a G5 is, go here
The site is mostly ranting on how Apple lies about their speed.

If you are seriously asking how fast a Mac is, you are not fit to be a Mac user. Sorry but it's true.
Also remember that you cannot overclock a Mac.

macs use the powerpc archirecture they ant x86 like intel and amd use...i think they just say power pc processor and not give a brand name but it could very well be a motorola like shawn says

also most of the hardware can only be gotten through apple themselfs...there are no other companys that make them

i dunno about that site, but it is *true* that a number of apple vs intel/amd tests were skewed to favor apple. it's also true that apple pulled the wording "the fastest personal computer" from their ads because they couldn't prove that.

a g5 will beat out most PCs because of the faster fsb and the chip architecture. note, i say most because the fastest dual AMD opteron will beat the top of the line dual g5.

btw, i don't see why you're quick to denigrate that guys site. at least he provides links to a lot of factual info.

That's not true for most components. A guy I know in engineering uses Macs and he says the following stuff works with macs:
-RAM
-hard drives
-monitors
-mice
-keyboards
-pen drives
-USB/firewire hard drives
I'm not sure about CD and DVD drives.

The stuff you really have to watch is stuff that requires driver support. For example, have a look at Nvidia. Notice how there is no option to download drivers for Mac OS; IIRC, Apple makes the Nvidia based cards, and you get the drivers straight from Apple. For ATI cards, go to ATI's website and go to buy. On the second page of video cards, you'll notice one that sticks out "RADEON 9800 PRO MAC EDITION 128MB AGP". You'll also notice the price difference:
RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB AGP - $249.00
RADEON 9800 PRO MAC EDITION 128MB AGP - $349.00
Another thing you will notice is that the 9800 Pro is the only card on ATI's site which has Mac support.

It's small stuff like that which really sours me on Mac computers.

The guy runs a pretty informative site actually. Here is an article he wrote about why programming companies don't like to support Macs. Definitely read it when you have time.

It's a variation of the reason why Apple failed in the business place. Everyone was originally rooting for Apple. But in an effort to get the latest technology, they would abandon their old technology. Businesses got tired of having to buy new stuff fall the time!
