| Why is my computer so slow
Based on Tom's Hardware and my friend's computer, there is something very wrong with my computer. The game is BF1942. Tom's Hardware
Here's my computer:
Athlon 3200+
Radeon 9600XT ~80 FPS @ 1024x768 (regardless of AA, AF, or in-game quality)
Here's my friend's computer:
Athlon 2500+
GeForce4 Ti 4400 ~100 FPS @ 1024x768 at highest in-game quality with no AA or AF
Tom's computer (1)
3.2GHz Pentium 4
Radeon 9600XT ~148.5 FPS @ 1024x768
Tom's computer (2)
3.2GHz Pentium 4
GeForce4 Ti 4400 103.4 FPS @ 1024x768
I understand that it's not exactly accurate to compare my own tests to Tom's Hardware tests, but comparing my computer and my friend's computer is accurate.
My computer is also slow when running Neverwinter Nights. I had my GeForce2 Ti200 in my computer yesterday for some benchmarking purposes, and my GF2 was able to get about the same frame rate as my 9600XT.
I formatted my hard drive two days ago so there isn't any spyware or garbage on my computer. I have the proper sound drivers, motherboard drivers, video drivers, and NIC drivers.
My computer even beats my friend's computer in GL Excess (Open GL benchmark). My computer scores 9274, my friend's scores about 6800. The GF2 i was using scored 5640.
What could be wrong?

can the monitor go higher then 80fps
i believe we can only see something like 60 fps so anything more should not be seen
but i get low fps also... Athlon 3200+ Ati 9800 pro |

Are you using the latest drivers as well? I'm thinking I might have to install some older drivers or something. Which drivers are the best?
On a side note, the eyes can definitely see higher than 60 fps. Set your monitor to 60Hz and use it for 3 hours straight. You'll have the worst headache ever.
Another side note. Right now I have my GF2 in the computer and Neverwinter Nights runs like a dream. Around 70 fps at 1024x768 using 64mb textures and high quality settings. |

Vertical synch is forced on perhaps?
Your framerates seem good to me ... but - BF1942 is often very sensitive to anything else using cpu power. Check in task manager to see if ctfmon is running ...
as a further note - I have a 2500+ and an overclocked ti4200 (set to faster than a ti4400) and I get nowhere near 100fps at highest quality settings. Not sure how your friend is arriving at that figure ... |

I don't know how TOms Hardware is getting above 100fps. BF1942 has a FPS limiter set at 100FPS and there is no way to change it. Are you sure you were looking at the correct game benchmark from Tom's?(Or maybe tom pulled another one of his crooked test)
I get 100fps @ 1024x768 with high detail on my 2100+ and FX5900.
I suspect Vertical synce is at play.

| That sounds to me like framerate is locked to the vsynch of the monitor.
Try checking that setting (dunno where it is in BF1942)

vsync is not on, but if it was, I would have to say fie on Nvidia for allowing a vsynced Radeon to beat a non-vsynced Ti 4400 .
Does anybody have a suggestion for which Catalyst drivers I should try installing first? Guessing and checking really isn't the answer I'm looking for. |

| I was helped
Hi
I must say I am absolutely not a computer wizz, so I need help if something goes wrong. I found this website that offered online help for incredible prices. (Which made me a bit suspicious to be honest, and also the fact that the website doesn't look finished) Anyway, I talked to the guys from easyred through their live chat (Which does work ) and decided to give it a try. So they quite quickly solved my problems. I am pleased I don't have to make those endless, expensive trips to the shop anymore.
I know I can't put their website here, so I huess you'll have to keep looking to find them.
Un saludo
