    Upgrading CPU/mobo...Is my current power supply enough?

    Currently using a 340watt PSU.
    AMD1900+
    1024RAM PC2100
    Gigabyte VT7XE+
    Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
    Radeon9800Pro
    Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM
    5 standard case fans, standard VGA fan, standard CPU fan.

    I plan to upgrade to:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    Albatron "K8X800 ProII" K8T800
    Arctic VGA fan
    Thermaltake CPU fan

    Thanks for the help.

    As long as it's a decent brand then you'll be fine. the processor won't really take anymore power, nor will the new fans really. your graphics card and hard drive are the real power drains.

    yep, all depends on the brand/quality of the PSU, but for the most part 340 should be enough for most average systems, it's when you jump up to the brand spanking new video cards and run multiple hard drives that you'll need bigger....just make sure the quality of your PSU is good and you should be good to go...best way to find out, however, is to put it to the test, heh..good luck...
    My Rig:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.16||6GB OCZ Rev2 DDR2 800 @ 1:1 ratio
    MSI 975X Platinum||GTX 275 896MB ||WD Black 640GB and 2x80GB RAID 0

    I recently upgraded my Geforce 3 ti 500 to this here Radeon, and I use to have an old 40GB harddrive prior to this 120GB western digital.
    So I guess I should be fine, unless I'm already pushing the limits of my power supply.

    It's a two and one half year old alienware PSU, so I assume it's a quality brand (Ya, I know, it was originally an Alienware system, but I didn't know how to build computers back then).

    don't worry, i can assure you you're not. I'm still doing fine on my 300 watt Antec PSU and i have a geforce FX 5900 ultra (major power hog), two hard drives, two cd drives, and 6 case fans.
