Capturing video from DVD
I want to capture the storm video Jerry Bruckheimer uses at the introduction to most of his films. I have one of his DVDs, Armageddon with the clip. The problem is, I've had trouble finding software that will capture off a DVD. Hell, I haven't even been able to take a screenshot, even after using multiple apps for that task (Power DVD, IrfanView, etc.). But that's besides the point...I really want a video, not a screenshot.

Thanks!

Isn't that stuff copyprotected?

Just get a program like DVD Shrink or DVD X and you can capture it. Both of those are DVD rippping/copying program but you should be able to just get a segment of it

Thanks for the tip...I got DVD Shrink. I'm able to capture the entire DVD onto my HD and from there I guess I cut out 99.8% of it to get the segment I want

its legal to make a back up, illegal to break the encryption that protects the DVD, but mainly illegal to reuse that clip in something else... let me know if you get it all sorted out Wart, I can help you out if you don't.

If you want to capture the DVD video as an MPEG, it can be easily done with freeware. First get a freeware program called DVDx 2.2 . The program is designed to rip and entire DVD to mpeg. But you can easily just select whatever portion you want. Rip more than you need on both ends, you can always use TMPGEnc to get it down to exactly what you want.
Have the movie studios gotten everybody so scared that they are afraid to touch their DVDs? They are doing an excellent job!RayH42450@gmail.com
