XP PRO LOGGING PROBLEM
Hi, every time I start up my laptop, it beeps a few times and then shuts off... once, i have gotten it to go into the login screen where it asks for a user name and pw... Thing is, I bought the laptop from someone and my friend tinkered around with it. Now it doesn't even work... PLEASE HELP!! How do I stop the anooying beeping that shuts off the computer and how do I unlock a "locked" computer?

I would login into admin account through safemode or by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del two times and signing in there and changing your default password through the User accounts or by cmd in run . I hope this helps ..

Thanks for reply but the thing is, I don't know the pw and the user name that the computer was already assigned.
Well, reformating the hd should work though right? Now, all I need to do is get rid of the annoying beeping noises..

hmm ... I am sorry but could you explain more about passwords and user names being already assigned?
So I can get a better idea. And formatting your drive is your last option, because that would be a pain...

i think if you know what you are doing, formatting is a good option. especially if this other person 'tinkered' around with it.
idn about anyone else, but if someone gives me a system full of junk, i like to reload it so I know everything that is on there and how it has all been set up. ~J

When you reinstall chose the "quick" format. Saves a lot of time.

Yah, but after I reformat, I don't need a PW to unlock the computer right?

A reformat should make a virgin out of your machine. Any old passwords should be gone.
