hi, so heres my problem. Recently I did a spyware & adware sweep with a few programs (spysweeper, adaware) and it found some things including a keylogger and other adware, so I didnt hesistate to delete them. After a reboot, I noticed that my PF Usage had jumped from approximately 150mb to over 500mb (with 30 proccess running). Ive done system restores, and it reverted back to "normal" until I remove the spyware, which caused it to jump back into the 500mb range. I've tried defragging, error-checking and updating windows. Is there any way I could reduce it? I havent had any luck searching for answers. Or is it normal to be 500+mb?
My system is running:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional w/SP1
Intel Pentium 4 3.20GHz
1.00 GB of ram
2 120gb hd
and my paging file is set to initial size 2048 and maximum size 2048. Any input would be apprecialted. Thanks |

What are the most resource consuming programs?

Or what does PF mean? |

when I right-click and go to task manager, the PF Usage (page file?) is currently at 597mb. It used to be at about 150mb with the exact same process running, i'm not too sure how to list the processes running, so i've (attempted) to attach a picture:
it seems like the numbers in "mem usage" column, under the processes tab, have gotten a lot bigger, but i could be wrong. |

You could try and look what's using the pf.
In task manager, click 'view' and select 'choose columns'. Put a tick on 'virtual memory usage' (or whatever it's called in english). Then sort the programs by vm usage.
It can be that your page file is set to 512 minimum. (my computer->properties->advanced->performance)
It looks like application layer gateway (ics), servicehost and explorer are excessively using resources.
I'd go and update my computer via windowsupdate. |
