the processor is the brain of the computer
just having a fast cpu doesnt mean your gaming will be great. it all depends on the ram, the motherboard, the hard drive, and last but not least the video card which i think is one of the most important items.
what is the rest of the systems specs you are looking at?
also what type of cpu? AMD or INTEL (celeron or p4) |

Well, we have to know your computer specifications to be able to answer you correctly.
The processor is, as GZ3 mentioned, the brain of your computer.
If you want something good for gaming, most of the hardware is important.
The most important though is the video card.
Which means that if you have a great CPU but a bad video card, the games will probably run bad.

well the computer i am thinkin bout getting is a gateway laptop M350S. i am really not planin on doin much gaming on it. (thats y i got xbox live) i really just want it to be powerfull enough to play halo online. the specs are:
Mobile intel pentium 4 Processor (with hyper threading) 2.8 GHz
512MB 333MHz DDR SDRAM (2-256MB modules) <-i have no clue what any of that is. can you explain
40GB 4200rpm Ultra ATA hard drive <-dont know what an of that is
Integrated Wireless G <- dont know what that is either
Integrated Intel® graphics with dynamic video memory technology(is it going to be good enough and if not can i upgrade. if so what to?
I heard that i cant upgrade the graphics card on laptops. Is that true? How important is the graphics card? |

It's a nice machine, but the video card is not good enough in my opinion.
And upgrading/changing video card in a Notebook is a bit tricky.
I would just go for a desktop instead if I were you.

Yes it is, but to be honest with you I have never changed a video card in a notebook.
I do know though that it is not as changing one in a desktop.
I know its more difficult changing the video card in a notebook.
Which is why (and for more reasons) laptops are not recommended for gaming.
Which makes me tell you that if you are looking for gaming, get a desktop.
If you still want a notebook, and be able to play advanced games, get one with a better video card.
It will probably be much more expensive. Which means it will be much cheaper going for a desktop.
