I am going to Italy in a few days and I was wondering if it is safe for me to take my laptop (Inspiron 8200) and my digital camera (Canon Digital Rebel) on in my carry on bag. When they run it though the scanner will it hurt my laptop or camera??
Any other suggestions about taking my laptop and camera on an overseas trip? ( I live in the US)
thanks |

When you get up to the scanners you'll be required to take your laptop out and put into a seperate bin as the rest of your stuff.
Everything will be fine.
Nothing special is required for digital camera

Nothing special is required for digital camera | Like vass said, they make you put it in a separate bin, and be sure that you do this. The security guards seem to always be grumpy and they will chew you out if they actually have to work. Also, make sure the laptop you pick up is actually yours. Put a sticker or something on it, just in case... |

Before you leave your car to head up to the terminal, fip your laptop open, fire it up, log in, and once you've gotten to your desktop or whatever, put it to sleep. The security d00ds will make you turn it on so they can verify that it's a working laptop, and not a gutted one with a bomb inside.
That's pretty much all you need to do. I've taken my digicam and laptop through the airport many times, no problems. |

Wear slip on shoes and no belt. Keep very little metal on your person (jewelery).

Arctic: That's something he can do, but doesn't really have to. My laptop that I took has a dead battery (it has to be plugged in) and they didn't give me any hassle about it. Besides, as long as it is out of the bag, they don't really care.
Ray is correct, try and wear something like sandals, or anything that is really easy to take off. I wore sandals and still had to take them off. (Don't ask me why I had to do that)... |
