    Never installed RAM before

I'm trying to increase the RAM on my bros computer. Its running Win XP Home with 128MB SDRAM! So, I put another stick of 128MB RAM into the second slot. What do I do next?

start it up. If that doesn't work, reset the bios. (that's what I had to do.)

If it's not recognized during POST mem check, shut down and check to make sure the ram is inserted in the proper orientation (there is a notch) and that the ram is fully seated (should snap into position).

well, there should be a little block covering 2 of 3 pins, (jumper) next to it, it should say clear cmos. They are caled like Jp5 or JP4. pull it out of pin 1 and 2. and move it to 2 and 3. Then move it back to 1 and 2. you bios should be reset. (will have to reconfigure.)

For what it's worth... I've owned a wide variety of motherboards (literally dozens of Intel and AMD) and have never had to reset/clear CMOS to get ram recognized. I suspect that sab571 either didn't properly install the ram, or it is the wrong ram for his motherbaord.

If his computer had PC 100 installed and you tried to install PC 133, it may not be designed to clock down.
