You don't say what you will be using it for but all in all it looks like a good system.
I don't think you will have any compatability problems with the parts.
Only thing I would do differently is to use a SATA hard drive instead of a PATA. Don't know what you are paying for the WD hard drive but you can get a Maxtor SATA drive for about $75 US. |

Im getting the WD Hard drive for $61 from Newegg. Could you explain the difference from an SATA and and PATA.
Im going to be using this system mainly just for school and the only game that I own is Morrowind, and I don't plan on buying any new games soon. Im just wanting a fast computer that will last me quite awhile until I get out of college and can afford to buy a new one.
Im upgrading from a P3, 866MHz, with 384 RAM. I've had this system about 5 years now and I am ready for a new one. |

Serial ATA has a higher possible transfer rate. It is where hard drives are headed. It normally pays off to be a forward thinker with computers so I would suggest it as well. Your mother board supports SATA so if you want to move a a SATA drive later on you could still do so. I don't think you would see much of a difference in speed with that type of hard drive. You would see a difference with a WD Raptor drive or with a Maxtor Diamond Max 10 w/ 16MB buffer.

Make sure your mother board comes with some Serial ATA power converters... When I got my OEM drive not only did it need a serial cable but a power cable as well. http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....131-492-08.JPG
the thing you need is to the right in the middle. It comes with the board if you are buying it retail.

I am getting it retail. Thanks for the heads up though, that is exactly the kind of help I was wanting. I would have been upset if it would have gotten here and I was missing a cable.
Thanks again for everyones help. Im putting in my order tonight. |
