Advice on PSU to buy
I think I need a new PSU for my system, could I get some opinions on what a good wattage would be or which PSU's would be good to buy. My specs are-
ASUS A7N8x Mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
9700 Pro Graphics
Sound Glaster Audigy Gamer
2 WD 120 GB HDD's
2 512mb PC3200 Ram2 or 4 fans
Thanks

A minimum of 350 watts... preferably 400 upwards...
name brands like ...
Antec
Channel Well
Enermax
Enlight
Fortron Source
Sparkle
HEC
Jeantech
NSpire
PC Power & Cooling
Seasonic
SilenX
Tagan
Thermaltake
TTGI/SuperFlower
Vantec
Verax
Zalman
if budget is a concern you can easily get a 350 Watt sparkle unit at NewEgg for $35 to $45

I have a 300 watt sparkle powering my system right now,
2500+ at 3200+
512 ram
radeon 9800
an 80gig hdd
a cdrw
The 350watt one will provide plenty of power for you system. Although some of the reviews from newegg said that it was a bit loud. I know that mine isnt loud but who knows?

Go for either a fortron, or sparkle (best bang for buck) or an antec truepower

I had an Antec 350w that literally blew up inside my case. Not sure why. Haven't purchased one since. Scared the crap out of me.

Have an Antec Smartpower 350, that's impossible to hear if you are more than a foot away. You would want the 420 watt smartpower though.

its not the best brand by far, but that is why i got the 480w. it has been running rock solid since i got it, and it looks sweet.

Vantec Ion 400watt 500watt peak and posted watts on sticker are constant load rateings. Its $55 at newegg. Ive been happy with mine its very quiet but has auto speed control so is cool also.. Allied is good on the cheap side.R.I.P. TKOP

I've got an Antec 380 true power. It's worth spending the money to avoid "wierd" problems, and have people telling you to replace the power supply...
BTW, If you need a new case the Antec Sonata come with the 380 for around $ 100.00 and it is really quiet by design. It only comes in black, so if the front door is open you show off your white and ivory and grey face plates of everything else.
I would buy it case and all.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

September 25th, 2004, 04:42 AM #19I've used Enermax exclusively in my gaming rigs. I like them becuase they have one of the strongest 12v rails out there when comparing comprable PSU's.
