| Computer/Mother board wont detect my hard drives. Plz help! Edit #2Well I think I figured out the problem. It always detected my cd-roms but not the hard drives. So I switched the cd-rom ide cables with the hard drive cables...I mean I didnt just switch them around I didnt unplug them from mother board and just switched the w/o that(hmm i hope that wasn't confusing lol) Anyway now it detected all my hard drives but not my cd-roms so my conclusion is that one of the ports for ide cables in the mobo is broken and wont detect w/e is conected to it. So i guess I need to get it fixed somehow. Can some one tell me how much would it cost or can I like buy the part and install it myself?
__________________________________________________ _______________ Edit I fixed the problem with the monitor not turning on, so now the computer boots up but I still have a problem. It doesnt detect any hard drives what so ever. I tried different power supplies, different ide cables, different hard drives and no luck. I also built another pc from my old mobo and a few parts from my pc and it DID detect the hard drive but I had to format it...And the new mobo, i just bought 3 months ago for like $120...people at the store said it was the best one out there...Is there a way to fix my mother board to detect the hdds?
I seem to have a lot of problems with my computer all the time. This time I have a big problem. I tried to switch the hard drives to check if my old one still works and after starting up the computer the monitor kept staying in the "stand by" mode not reacting to anything. and computer seemed not booting up at all since it didnt output any noises what so ever. I tried switching the hard drives back to normal and still the same problem. I even unplugged all the cd-roms and all the hard drives and still get the same thing. I have Pentium 4 2.8ghz computer with windows xp os. Please reply.

Did you jumper the old drive as slave and make sure that in your BIOS setup that it is set to detect the primary slave? |

DoctorReno, my jumpers are set right. I'm pretty sure. And you're saying to edit the BIOS...well as I said my monitor DOESNT turn on at all and the pc wont boot as well. So lol how can I edit them if I can't even get to them.
Well I got a little progress now, I changed my power supply but had no luck, it would still not boot at all. Then I reset the BIOS by taking out that little round battery and putting it back in. Now it boots but it wont detect any of my hard drives at all and I get that weird "Yukon" error again which is freaking me out because I have no idea what it is and it says its licenced by Marvel? Well now I need to find a way to get it to detect any hard drives, and yes I am setting the jumpers right. In Bios it says "not detected" and it's set for Auto.

If they are jummpered for cable select, try to set them as master and slave. Or visa versa. Or try just only one drive at a time to see if it will detect any one of them.

I would disconnect the old drive and see if it will boot without it. |

It doesnt detect any hard drives. I tried a lot of different combinations. I have 3 hard drives and I tried plugin in 2 of them at a time and even 1 at a time in different ways, I even switched the power supply back to original and my computer just seems not detecting any of them and gives me an error saying to select the proper boot media. This has never happened to me before. This is just weird, every time I switch a hard drive my computer completely crashes and it takes me a few days to get it fixed...and I don't have any money to pay a professional to take a look at it. |

even with out any IDE, ATA, SATA etc... devices connected your motherboard SHOULD at least do a Power On Self Test (POST) If it's not doing that their may be a problem with your Video card, Ram, Processor, or the motherboard itself. I'd suggest to try Reseating you RAM and video card first. If that won't even get your machine through POST, check and see if your motherboard is in fact getting power. Their should be a LED somewhere on your MoBo that lights up when you have power connected to your machine. |

It's because you up your refresh rate to high on your monitor. Atleast that's what it sounds like to me |

Guys please read my updated posts, I fixed the monitor not turning on problem....now it just doesnt detect my hard drives. I need a way to get it to see any hard drives...in the BIOS it says Not Detected even though 2 hard drives are hooked up and I'm am not a professional but I am experienced with computers since I always get errors and problems with them. So, what can I do to get my mobo to detect the hard drives? |
