Most Macs are easy to open.

I am still trying to figure out how to take out the CD-ROM on my G3 tower.

I meant the iMac G5 is easier to open then previous generations of the iMac. The jellybean(G3) iMac was easy to open but, so hard to access the parts due to the CRT.The lamp or sunflower(G4) iMac was hard to open and hard to access the guts. The Jay Leno(G5) iMac is easy to open and easy to access the parts.

I don't see why he's disassembling it.

There goes the warranty.

Looks like slashdot beat you to it on the news... and yes, it does void your warranty with Apple to open up the new iMac... unless you're a certified Apple technician.

You can upgrade the ram and maybe the HD and it won't destroy the warranty. Overclocking the G5 will.

Macworld seems to think differently... http://www.macworld.com/2001/10/bc/howtoimac/

It says upgrading the HDD "may void your warranty." I'm not sure the details - I don't use Macs since I like opening up my PC's without worrying that I'm SOL if something I install doesn't like the rest of my components - I'm simply restating what both this macworld article and the slashdot article say - both of which seem to imply that opening up your imac will void the warranty.

Granted, the MacWorld story is old - but I don't think the new iMac's warranty is any different from the old one... Just beware, early iMac G5 adopters!!! Jobs may not fix your machine if you get too curious with what's inside it...

As I said the HD may void the warranty. But, the ram won't. How do you suppose to upgrade the ram? You have to open it up. So upgrading the ram is a definite no it will not void the warranty. The HD may void it.
