usb mouse issue

hmm....whenever I start my computer up my usb optical IBM mouse just plain doesn't work. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it works. Sometimes I'll need to do it couple times. I figured this was the mouse because I had dropped it a while back and it messed up the side button, but a friend of mine just told me he had the same problem....differnt mouse, different hardware. Running XP pro SP2.

Any ideas? I've tried re-installing my usb drivers....oh also, my other usb devices don't have any problem.

I HATE IT. Did it work before you installed sp2?
You could also get one of those adapter things and convert the usb to the older mouse port.

I've seen this problem before, you can try disabling the USB power off feature in your hardware manager. Right click on every USB hub and go to power option or power management (sorry my OS isn't english) and uncheck "allow this device to be powered off"
