| Building a new PC...need some advice!
Hi dudes...I'm new to the forum and I need some advice...I plan on building my first PC soon, and before buying anything, I'd like to have some opinions from people that know better than me...
So this is what I'm planning to buy...
Antec 1040BII
Athlon XP 2600+ 333FSB
Asus A78NX-E Deluxe
2x256Mb Corsair PC3200 RAM
ATI Raedon 9800PRO ( )
I plan on overclocking the 2600+ to around 3200+ if possible, I'm looking for a good, not so expensive, and quite quiet HSF...I need some opinons on this...I'm on a budget so I can't really spend that much...
I'm still not so sure about the Video Card, I'd like to get a cheaper one but that still would perform quite well...I also plan on o/c.
Any recommendations...
Thanks |

I'd recommend getting this CPU instead. It runs a lot cooler and has the ability to OC higher if you want to.
AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2500+, 266 FSB, 512K Cache, 45 Watt - OEM http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-401&depa=1
For a simple bump to 3200+ speeds this will be more than adequate.
Speeze "FalconRock" CPU Cooler for Socket A/ 370, Model "5F286B" -RETAIL http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...150-023&depa=1
Beyond that you will probably want to try and find a Thermalright SLK-900A/U heatsink if you want to overclock more. I'm sure some other people will be able to add more good coolers. |

I agree with Bomble on the processor and Speeze heatsink, only I would get the all copper on for about the same price.
For a motherboard, look at the ABIT NF-7. Not the -M, or the -S (if you don't need Sata), or the S2 version.
The lower wattage and unlocked mutlplier make is a cool running overclocker.
Here is a recent one I built, currently running @2.2 Ghz, 100@ CPU usage. Temps stay below 50C. |

Thanks guys...
I made a small search on newegg for low dba and quite cheap ones as well...this is what I came up with...
Cooler Master XDream II (CFM= 31.4 - 62.8, dBA= 24) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-146&depa=0
SPEEZE CPU Cooler (CFM= 37.87, dBA= 26.5) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...150-040&depa=0
Spire WhisperRock IV (CFM= 28, dBA=21.1) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...151-111&depa=0
Thermaltake "Volcano 7+" (CFM=49, dBA= 24/35/47) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...106-014&depa=0
What do you think about these HSF??? are they good and quiet?...Also I've been told to get the Thermaltake EXTREME VOLCANO 12, but it is a lot more expensive than the ones posted before, and also I hear TT fans are quite loud...do you think I would really need all this power for what I intend to do??
As of the Motherboard...I looked into the Abit mobos Don suggested, but I couldn't find the NF-7, these were the ones I was able to find...
ABIT "NF7-S2" http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...127-185&depa=0
ABIT "NF7-S V2" http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...127-166&depa=0
I get Free shipping on both, the S V2 version is a bit more expensive but I am willing to pay those for the onboard nVIDIA SoundStorm APU(Dolby 5.1) + 6-Channel AC97 CODEC 5.1 support...
Are both of these as easy to overclock as the NF-7
Looking at dons pic and comparing it to the NF7-S V2...they look exactly the same, are they the same board?
Thanks again for all your help |

Oh I see...so I think I'll go with the Abit NF7-S V2...$69 bucks after mail in rebate...
What about the fans...are those any good?
Thanks again |

No links? I would go with the all copper HSF you had listed above.

I have the nf7 s and its fine for overclocking with the 2500, got mien running at 2.2 ghz temps around 50. I bought the nf7s for the soundstorm, you'll love it i garantee.

dont go with the 2x256. at least go with 1x512 so u can upgrade later. but if u really want it for gaming, get a gig, its really a serious difference. i've used 256 and 512 on old comps, and the difference there isnt too much, but between 512 and 1 gig, it really makes everything run much faster...especially unreal 2k4 |
