Software Audio Amplifier for a laptop ? Speakers not loud enough... HELP !

Okay I have a problem with my laptop when watching a movie or dvd it isnt loud enough. I have all audio options maxed out. I know winamp has audio amplifier built in, is there any software programs that amp all audio output ? I know my speakers can output more but its based on input.. ie a small sound played on the laptop comes out small.. if you reflect it as loud(or record it as loud) it comes out loud. So... Anyone got any options.. ? Software costs are not an option.. (wink wink) Hardware is not an option.

Its probably your speakers, they can only handle so much...they are probably a pretty low wattage, hence the lack of great sound.

Yes I know they arent all that great.. but.. playing music recorded at high volumes results in high volume music.. I know the speaker can output more because on songs they do.. on dvd's they dont.. I know someone out there has made a software AMP (akin to winamps amp..) that allows you to amp the level of sound so its put out louder on your speakers..

Even pushing the speakers beyond their capability may not be the best option. I mean the quality is going to degrade. Why are external speakers or headphones out of the question? They make speakers that are a few mm's thick and headphones with built-in preamps.

Media Player Classic - Combined Community Codec Pack

Use MPC which is included within the Combined Community Codec Pack

If you go into Play -> Audio -> Options... then slide the boost bar all the way to the right, your audio playback will have become greatly amplified. Enjoy

I'm looking for a similar overlay. A driver update lowered the volume but I like the performance of the new driver so I seek a way to further amplify my output on my sound device through a software override. Seek I must.

Only so much you can get from the hardware. VLC pretty much is giving you the software max. If the pre-amp of a unit is 5watts then all you will get is 5watts.

I've never seen or heard of a "software" fix for what your wanting SJ. Have you checked into headphone amps?
I know they can be found for a decent price, and do exactly what your wanting to do. The only downside is you'd have to carry a small amp around with your lappy, which I'm sure is probably what your trying to avoid.

But if your not totally opposed to the thought of having an external amp, you might check into the Mini 3 line.

vlc is a decent software amplifier

I use Vlc and it really does amplify my audio in my notebooks and netbooks. Hey and its free until MS buys em out.
