Pentium 4 Extreme Edition?? Who needs it!?!?!
i dont even know what extra it does, it just seems like a much better hyper threading thing. but since HT helps with running many different processes at the same time, how many programs do u have to run to see the benefits of EE. it seems to me like a waste of ... oooh about a grand or so

they hyper threading is no different it just has an L3 cache, which does help it out quite a bit but its definatley not worth the price difference
Hey who turned sigs on?

Obviosly you haven't looked at the benchmarks.

Next time, do both of these before critisizing something you obviously know nothing about.
Edit: Headband is correct, not worth the price difference. It is however, more powerful than the AMD Athlon 64's...up until the FX's and the 3800+
I'm sure Intel have something new on the way though...Last edited by Whitehawk; October 22nd, 2004 at 12:18 AM.

no, 3.4EE loses time after time to even the mid ranged 3500+ which has but a third of the total cache and 60% of the original clock speed.
The Extreme Edition will be dropped after the release of the 3.73GHz variant as Intel has realized its lack of market reception and lack of investment return.
A wiser choice for your "EE money" would be an FX from AMD as they cost less money and outperform on a constant basis.
Intel has been having troubles with their 775 line scaling, and have resolved to double the L2 cache on their new 6xx line which will just be 5xx CPUs +1MB cache. Intel has basically nullified their EE line with this move as there will be very little difference between the 660 and the 3.46EE when it comes out.
Whitehawk, don't be so harsh on him, he asked the question and wanted some answers. Given that he could have gone to find some benchmarks, he may not know where to go for the most reliable results. I personally trust anandtech.com for some pretty level headed work--another would be vr-zone.com.
The EE has proven that it is the most superior processor for video encoding and mp3 endoding, however for what it's worth beyond that, it is easily outperformed in nearly every other real world test--it is even losing in synthetics these days.

and only intel with HT can handle this apps. without freezing. based on my own personal experience.

Just a question here. Wouldn't it be cheaper and better to have a dual CPU setup for all that graphics stuff? I would assume you could get 2 pretty good opterons or xeons for the price of an EE P4.

I am running P4 2.4 Ghz 'B', and running doing very similar stuff to what you do.

That's hilarious GZ! Nothing like a little controversy to get people stirred-up. This will be fun to watch :)
