Trying to shrink my Ghost image...
I'm trying to shrink my image under 700MB so it can fit on a CD. I'm installing Win2k Adv Server with SP4 and latest MS updates. There are some other components I need to install like HP management agents.
I delete my page file, delete the extracted HP installation files and my image comes out to 753MB compressed! Any thing else I can do to get rid of some space?

You do need the page file, but for purposes of making an image you can set it to 0. When the machine reboots, it indicates that virtual memory is too low error. After I copy the image to a new machine and the sysprep setup wizard runs, Windows automatically sets the minum recommeded page file size.

I guess you could always go in and strip out stuff like screensavers, games, help files that contain graphics etc

I think if I did that I would at least apply the blaster and sasser worm patches....otherwise it is easy to get infected even if you go straight to msofts update site
what I usually do is have those 2 patches on disk etc and I apply them before I put the comp on my lan to go do the updates
-------
why cant you just put it all on 2 disks? seems that would be more natural.....just go with 2 disks but go ahead and get all the updates etc etc"Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"

Why not just put the image on the network? To me, that is the beauty of Ghost.

SJ...what is the "quick n dirty" method for using networked images?
I suppose it is just a special network boot floppy? so you need to have a nic with drivers on the floppy?"Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"
