Internet / Outlook express

Hi there,

Have been looking these forums with some interest and have a problem of my own that I wondered if someone could help please?

I have recently upgraded my Laptop to XP Home Edition. I previously had Win 98SE and everything worked fine. Had a few bugs with this but the lasy major problem is outlook Express. I click the E-Mail icon on the start menu and all I get is the internet options panel. I do not believe that OE was installed Properly. I have tried to re-install IE6 from the net but again this had no effect. Im now considering just re-installing XP again over the top of this one,

Any suggestions??

Welcome to the forum!

reinstalling xp over the top is an ok idea

its called a "repair install"

boot to cd

on first screen hit 'enter' as if for an install
2nd screen hit f8

3rd screen hit (R) for 'repair'

DONT hit the (R) on the FIRST screen as that is the recovery console only...not what you want

---

or..is it possible to do a fresh install using the upgrade cd??

can you burn them to cd first??

also..seems I remember that if you re-install IE6 and you just choose the "typical" configuration it doesnt include outlook express

you have to choose "customize" and then you'll see the check box for Outlook Express

My cd burner is also giving me problems

But I could try this. I will try re-installing again and look at the custom option.

Thanks for all your help!

If you are already having problems with a number of applications (and hardware, too), you may be much better off saving whatever data files -- and any special drivers -- you need to any media (even floppy). Then reformat your harddrive and start over from scratch with a clean installation. Often, and upgrade on a system having problems just carries (or even multiplies) the existing problems. Also, go to the MS website and order the SP2 on CD (no charge)... they usually get it to you in about a week, and you will have all but the latest service patches.
