i have no ideas as to why  there where no changes made hardware or software...system is winxp pro, before this happened i also tried to run windows update many times but it just said failed.
Lights on router stayed on so it means it can read my computer, sames as my network card, light is on...everything else on computer works fine its just no internet

Coolguy, dsl is broadband. I believe what you meant to say was do you have dsl or cable. |

12nOld,
In a cmd prompt box, run ipconfig /all and report what you get. If your pc is getting a 169.*.*.* IP address, than it's a pretty good bet your NIC has gone bad. Are you able to connect to your router's setup screen? Can you ping your router? Are other PCs connected to this router able to get to the internet? If other PCs are connected, can you ping them?

its working now, how wierd...spent most of the night last night figuring out whats wrong, and now after switching on the computer went straight to internet  |
