Sure hope someone can help me! Or I will be spending many nights sleeping on the couch!
I have been burning photos to a CD for over a week now and it had about 300 photos on it and used up 360MB in space.
Well, I burn 7 more photos, but now when I view the CD it shows only the newest 7 only. It now shows 365MB space taken as opposed to 360Mb prior to burning the 7 new photos. But it says there are only 7 pictures on the whole CD. How can that be? Did I erase them? And if so, then why does it show all that space taken?
Somebody please tell me I did not loose the family photos! Please!

....cds are not like floppy drives.
I think what you've done is created a "multi-session" disc, meaning you've basically been burning multiple cd file systems onto a single disc, and by defualt it shows the last one that was burnt.
I'm not exactly sure if theres a way to view previous sessions, but if not, you've lost them.
A CD is not a good media to just "add" files to.
As small as images are, why have you even removed them from your computer?
just leave the pictures on your computer and them backup ALL the pictures on a cd every once and awhile.
One of the USB flash discs might be a better option if you just want to add stuff. |

Change to RecordNow to burn your discs! You can add files one at a time till the disk is full with no problems. I threw out Nero when I found that it did the multi session thing, hated it! Your CD writer software may allow you to change which session is the current one and you then may be able to recover your photos. I think that was how Nero did it. |

Since there's no real way to "delete" data from a CD-R, the photos are most likely still intact on the disk.
On a hard drive, when you delete data, it simply removes the pointers to the files, the files are still there.
On your CD-R, chances are it just wrote new pointers, which only point to the new files, and not the existing ones.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but a regular file recovery program might be able to see those files.
There are plenty of freeware ones out there, just do a google search for "file recovery."
Good luck, I hope your photos aren't gone...
The couch is never a comfortable place to sleep.
EDIT: I didn't realize this was an old thread either... hopefully someone can learn something from it anyway.

Depending on your burning software, use SESSION SELECTOR to view files from previous sessions.

The author of this thread may not read this, since it is old, but I'd like to point out the fact that there is no need to pay for file recovery software...
Anyone else smell spam? |

Thats not spam because it was a suggestion to the person and its not an unwelcome suggestion. Spam is unwanted mail that tracks to ur e-mail. I was only suggesting a solution.
I didnt know it was an old one cause so many people were still responding...oh well..sorry SPAM, Advertising, Soliciting . . . whatever you call it, it ain't allowed here. You wanna advertise? Use the Contact Us link. EvilRick |

See thats the thing..Ive used one of the softwares sold from us when i lost 60 pages of work from ma Word document after it corrupted. The Word Recovery recovered the file and i got ma data back.
Although yes u dont have topay for data recovery, before buying ma data recovery i tried other stuff as well but noting i tried seem to work..I cant remembr wot i tried cause it was in May...but the thing i found out is that there is a much betterchance of recovery software being properly beneficial for the user compared to freeware....but yes u dont have to payfor file recovery....its just a quicker and easier solution....and thats the point of data recovery...i remember when i lost my work....i panicd soo much i did anything to get it back because i had a deadline for the following week so i had to pay for it and finish. But i do feel that recovery should be cheap...thats y the sofware at filefix.co.uk ltd is cheaper than their original RRPs. |
