Using a laptop monitor as a normal monitor???????

Is there anyway I can hook up my old laptop monitor to my computer and just use it as a monitor?
So i could use just the monitor of the laptop as normal monitor!
is that possible?

i never seen a laptop with a video out! Look and see if there is one or tell me what brand it is and I will look it up for you and tell you whether or not you can do it!

Doubtful as the connections on the lappy lcd screen are specific to the mfg of the unit.

Often even among the same brand the connection will be different.(AFAIK)

These are not your standard 9 pin connection.

It's possible but would be very custom and involve soldering.

It would be best just to consider a laptop as an output device only. The laptop will output its signal/image to an external monitor or TV for some, but it will not accept a signal.

If you've every replaced RAM on a few laptops by removing the keyboard on top (depends on the brand) you may have noticed a flat yellow and traslecent ribbon that runs between the flat panel and the base. That is what connects the on board video to the screen and most are a digital connection (not analog like a CRT monitor connecting to desktop PC)

We have a couple units that do accept video input, but they tend to be very expensive. I haven't seen normal software for this purpose, but terminal services or Citrix might work for some similar purposes without any connections other than network. As far as using just the screen for a monitor, be prepared for a lot of homework in EE and design.
