How much wattage do you need for sli?

I am building a new rig and although I can only afford one 6800gt now ... i still have to buy a psu now that will eventually handle a second 6800gt down the road. Anyone have any ideas to how much wattage is needed? I read somewhere (i think it was at toms hardware guide) that msi and asus said that 450 watts is enough, but that sounds really odd considering it is recommended that you have 350w for just one of these cards. Anyone have any answers? The sli boards are coming out in a few weeks and i cant seem to find any concrete answers ...

450 might be enough but i would be looking into a 500watt myself. also, get a respectible brand.

that may be true but it would be a bare minimum, for example if the system uses 250 watts and each card uses 100

wattage really means nothing when it comes to psus, normally if you get anything from a good brand it will be plenty, but with sli you need he high wattage in addition to the quality...i would go with the antec true 550 just to be safe

actually not. i got a gold plated PSU 550W in my machine and I got it for £20 on ebay.
