doubts!

my friend told me that a processor packed with loads of transistors may not have a lasting life . it might get melted . the durability of the transistors will also be weak . i think he told me that this is Moore's law . if so , there wont be any more development for processors right? Intel Itanlium 2 - why cant it be used for gaming purposes ? why server cant be used for gaming ?? what is the highest speed for Itanlium 2 ? it is 64 bit processor ?

thanks...
RobRich you are absolutely brillant in your posts

Moore's law was changed to say the moore resistors you have, the faster they'll melt?! Uhh no
Moore's Law

Quote:
The observation made in 1965 by Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel, that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented. Moore predicted that this trend would continue for the foreseeable future

Server CAN be used for gaming. The problem is, it SHOULDN'T be used for gaming.
Its a SERVER. Servers are meant to sit in rooms and do nothing but serve files, application, data etc.
Its extremely rare, where there is an actual need for server to be run as a desktop.

what about the durability of the transistors in a chip ? if they are too many , it will get too heated up or the life of the processor will reduce right?

if they are too small/close you may start to get weird quantum effects, and one of them heating up will heat its' neighbours, but if the cpu is cooled properly, heat failure is not really an issue.
