do you need a monitor? speakers? kb/mouse? os?...these components can be $400 of the budget alone but many people don't need them

What headBand said. We need a few more details. Specifically, what parts/components will you need?

ANTEC Black Case with 350W Power Supply- $72
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
If you need a good case and PSU, can't get much cheaper.

Lite-On Black 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive- $20
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
Your basic needs, still a good drive though.

Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive- $59
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
SATA+Gaming= PWNage

Corsair 1gb (Dual Pack) 512MBx2 DDR-400- $142
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
Good ram, better price

SOLTEK SL-K8AN2E-GR NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb Motherboard- $89.50
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
Easy to set up, fast and cheap.

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ - $223
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-484&depa=0
I went with s754 because of the price difference between it and s939, basiclly it faster for less.

ASUS GeForce 6800 GT Video Card 128MB DDR- $239.50
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE
Doesn't have GDDR3 but it's the best card for the money (besides GDDR3 makes little difference, other than price that is)

Total- $945.27 (little over but very much worth it)

that video card is a 6800 standard the name is messed up with this one
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...121-172&depa=1

i would get a 6600 GT instead to cut costs

the hard drive i would get a larger one (SATAII seagate?)

i would go with a better motherboard too...a 939 or p4 and drop the cpu speed to save money

with the extra money you can get better optical drives if you want

the case you can change to fit your personal tastes, if it dosent have a good psu a tt 420 is a good value

The V9999GE is a 6800 (12-pipelines) overclocked and overpowered with GDDR3.
The V9999GT is ASUS's lower-end 6800gt (16-pipelines) without GDDR3.
I looked at ASUS's site and they say the same thing
The V9999GT might be a 6800 (haven't double checked anywhere else) but I know the V9999GE is one.

I was trying to give him the most power for the lowest price not a "well-rounded" PC. If thats what he wants I can configure one of those easily.

ASUS 6800 fun.

leadtech 6800 gt $389

corsiar 512 mb $ 72 x 2

mobo asus a8v $99
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...31-510R&depa=0

amd 64 3000 $155
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-501&depa=0

light on cd burner $ 20

light on dvd drive $24
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...131-119&depa=0

seagate 80 gig $62
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...148-015&depa=0

total $952

i know it is a bit over the set lvl but if need be you could take out one of the cd or dvd drives and possibly make the hard drive a 40 gig. or you can get a 6600gt and save about $150.

by the way i am out raged at the price of your optical drives i can get dvd drives at $24 ( LG 16X) and cd burnersat abit less then $20. looks like australia is better for optical drives.

according to my math it is $845.

also with that 6800 it is kinda weak it is only 128 mb and looking on the future mark site it only gets about 9900 in 3d mark 03 while my care gets 11500 at stock. i think another brand of 6800 or a 6600 gt would be a better option. infact this card is only about 8% faster then a straight 6800 and is about $80 bucks more. sorry to rag on the card but i think it would be a very bad idea.
