How big is the latest 4 in 1 file? I have it downloaded as a zip file but can't transfer it to floppy. File to big. Trying to load new OS(W2k) and would like to be able to load the Via's but won't fit on a floppy. Am I missing something very obvious? Thanks. |

The latest I have is 4in1 4.37v(a) and it says that it is only 0.98mb.
That should be able to fit on a floppy easily |

I just downloaded both 3.6 and 3.7, both were just over a meg.
Prehaps you disk has some bad sectors, try reformating it, be sure to do full format and do not copy system files. |

That's what I thought. That is the version that I have and when I unzip it, it says "error occured, disk is full". New floppy. |

Hey jerrygarcia
I read the last post about the problems getting w2k installed and the suggested advice for the via 3-in-1s
I'm just wondering if there hasn't been a misunderstanding
1. Are you trying to load the via stuff before you've got w2k installed?
2. Or have you got w2k installed and now trying to load the vias?
As far as I understand, you can't load the vias during the install - that option is for scsi devices and others that I am not fully aware of.
If there you are trying #1, I think you'll have to abandon that and focus on getting w2k installed first
let us know where you're at

I'm just preparing for after the OS is installed, I'm having some other problems with the install (including NIC installation) so I was trying to have them on disk without downloading them straight to the new one. Check my post in the OS and Apps forum to bring up to speed on the problems I'm having with the OS(W2k......Help!---jerrygarcia). http://www.techimo.com/forum/t12819.html |

hey again jerrygarcia
thanks for the link, that was the post I read earlier
if you hit the install/repair screen, it sounds like you have some major issues with the basic install (correct me if I'm wrong)
are you posting from the w2k...help! machine or another?
if it's another machine 2 questions:
1. is it on a network with your w2k troublemaker?
2. does it have cd-burner?
if #1 get the w2k machine sorted on the install and then grab the vias and other drivers from that machine over the network (that's my preferred MO
if #2 download everything driver-wise that you think you need to get w2k..help to basic functionality and burn to CD ... the rest is pure logic
if neither of the above fits your situation is the w2k machine a double-boot? if so, even using NTFS for the w2k and FAT32 for the w98, a basic solid w2k install will let you grab the files from the w98 partition (but of course not vice-versa)
download under w98, unzip and stash in a folder called "whatever" then boot into w2k and install/grab from there
hope I have not repeated the 'obvious'
best of luck with it

I am on another computer and not networked to the w2k machine. I do have a burner available to me and it will not be a dual boot machine.
Thanks for the help. |
