Why do PDF file take sooo long to load

I cannot understand why PDF files take so long to load when clicking on a link with a browser(Firefox is a little better but still slow). I feel like I am opening a huge file on office 2000 on a 133mHz pentium. (& I remember what that felt like!)

In the blink of an eye I can usually download the same files & open them outside the browser.

Does Acrobat slow down the browsers significantly??
Is there anything I can do?

    Currently running XP pro
    1800+
    512 ram
    Cable connection
Stable machine. Nothing much running in background.

The Adobe Reader plugins for browsers simply suck. (Sorry, it had to be said) I have always download and opened PDFs outside the browser. I've never seen a good explanation as to why the plugins don't work to well, they simply just don't. Reader 7.0 is better, about 2x faster, but still terribly slow. The worst is Acrobat Proffesional 6. It takes ages to load a 1 page PDF.

Yeah, PDFs suck. Try using the "view as html" option in google.

I agree... going to Reader 7.0 speeds things up considerably.

I also recall reading about a tweak that would prevent most of the version 5.0 and 6.0 plugins from loading and speed things up, too. I'm sorry, but I don't recall where I came across it.

Best bet, uninstall whatver version you're at and install v7.0.

I posted about AR Speedup in the freeware thread, wherever it went.
