MS outlook PST file problem

I have a network running on a win2000 domain server. We also use a Linksys network attached storage drive to keep our data backed up. We do not run exchange server and all users have their own outlook license which they use locally on their PC.

I want to keep the outlook PST files for all the users on the linksys attached storage drive so that they are backed up, but when I put the PST file on the network drive and the user attempts to open outlook, I get an error. I have routed OUtlook to open the PST file in the network location, but it still gives me an error saying something about not being able to open the outlook window.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

are you trying to do it with a mapped drive or a UNC path?
I'm guessing mapped drive, but if not try it that way.

yes, the drive is mapped. I think the problem might have something to do with the way the Linksys EFG120 (attached network drive) formats the drives. I heard something about PST files needing FAT32 or NTFS to function. I have no idea what Linksys uses to format the drives, but it seems like that might be the issue. Anyone know of a way around it?
