Create program with security key

I am trying to figure out how you can protect a program with a security key(or dongle) that plugs into paralel port. i have a small program that i compiled and i'm trying differant ways to protect it. i have one program that is protected that way. is there any way to get into that program and see where it is pointing to that device so maybe i can go about the same way of doing it.
