| my computer wont start....please help
my DAW/DVW wont start....advice plz
it just, shut off! black screen, deafening silence......
and now it wont restart...
symptoms:
1) turned off unexpectedly while running a few programs (discreet combustion, ms mediaplayer, norton IS, all were running at the time, but I doubt this is a software issue)
2) motherboard light is "ON"
3) put in new powersupply, no help
system-->
1) asus p4-533-c mothrbrd, w/ new 3.06ghz p4 chip (and newly flashed bios chip)
2) new 400watt power supply
3) 1 gig ram, new
4) emu 1820m, new
so tell me, WHAT could be wrong---the actual power switch itself??
? |

Sounds like you burned something. Try removing everything and then reinstalling piece by piece. Start with just the CPU, RAM, and video. Or if you have on-boad video at all, try that first before installing the AGP/PCI card. |

try what whir had said... remove everything execpt the essentials . reseat video, memory , & the proc.
PULL the cmos battery for 10 minutes @ least.. try again after you place it back in... if it dont work, take your chip and memory to a local shop to have them test... my guess is you burned the board out... maybe the proc took one as well on ya...

JOKOSTEL & BIYA
I should clarify that nothing AT ALL happens when I push the power switch, it doesnt even get to system beeps or anything, thats why I think the switch may be bad, Im having an electrician look at it tonite
no,
actually asus flashed the bios chip for me (1010c), and things have been running smoothly for over a week....I let the comp sit over night, and even replaced the powersupply before I ever posted on this forum...
I will try resetting cmos /] battery (fingers crossed), I have tested ALL other ram, cards, processor etc they all work in my other comp--
btw, what do you mean by "maybe the proc took one as well "---does proc= processor? no, it is in working order as well
???
THANKYOU guys, btw!!! |

sounds like the mobo..or maybe the switch..the way to tell is to take a paperclip and a larger eraser... make the paperclip into a u and stick it through the eraser and then look what 2 pins the power switch connects to on the mobo and take the connector off..then touch the 2 pins w/ the ends of the paperclip....lol..i don't usually use the eraser..but that's probably the best way to do it....more to keep u from shocking the system then from the system shocking u...but i'd bet it's the mobo! |

I have replaced the power switch (reset solders as well), checked/tested/ replaced CPU, reset cmos & battery, run jumper/jumper free mode.....nothing.....nerd kru is stumped
board tests fine.......my only other theory is the on/off side circuit that controls stratup power has gone bad?
(yes I work grounded)
