Apple to add more ram to Mac line up.
Appleinsider reports that by mid year of 2005, all Macs will come with 512 MB of ram. While it has to do with Tiger, tiger will not require 512 MB to run. It is to make it run smoother. Well, we can remove another gripe about Macs if the rumor is true.
I am happy that Apple is actually making changes. Now we need to get the 5200 out of the iMac, 12" Powerbook, and low end and mid range Powermacs, and put them in ibooks, eMac( if not killed), and Mac Mini and put the 9600 in the iMac, 12" pbook, and Powermac.

Interesting to know. About how much RAM does OSX hog and about how much will Tiger use? I'm guessing it can't be anywhere near what Windows uses.
BTW, I thought the Tomcats were gonna be decommissioned in 2006? Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I remember reading. Though I know they have been scrapping a lot of them since 1999. [EDIT]I thought there was something like 75 or so left.[/EDIT]

From what I've seen of OSX, it chews up about the same amount of resources as XP does.

March 10th, 2005, 05:49 PM #5While Tiger will need 128 MB of ram like Panther and Jaguar it needs 512 MB to see the zip of OS X. I believe it is the same with XP, needs 128 MB to run, but 512 MB is the sweet spot.

4GB is about the minimum you want for good performance. I kicked up to 8 and I noticed the difference. Especially in games.
