Lightscribe

I was talking to a friend of mine about the new Lightscribe. He is very interested in it and wants to use it. Does he have to get a brand new drive? or can he just update his Nero software to enable lightscribe (or firmware upgrade)? I myself am also interested in this new software because I backup some of my dvds and shapie looks so tacky.

Thanks,
Steven

Yup have to get a lightscribe drive, and DVDs, or CDs, that can use the technology. It prints on the disk with heat, or a lazer, or something like that, not like a printer with ink.

From what I have read, the lightscribe drives use the same laser for scribing that it does for burning, just at different power levels. I'd love to try this out myself, but am too cheap to buy a new drive when I don't really need it. :-) Also, I've heard the media is a bit spendy. The lowest price I've seen for blank lightscribe DVDs is about US$2 each and CD-Rs about US$0.60 each.
