    Big Hard Drive/Ipod Problem

Ok, cutting to the chase, just got an ipod, dosent work, the software dosent install right and there is errors on the install.

I called HP/Apple, they said that its because my hard drive is named F: and not C:, but i dono if thats so. Im pretty sure theres no way to change it without reformatting my entire computer so there has to be a way around it....i hope...

Itunes does actually install, along with quicktime, and ipod updater, but itunes dosent recognize my ipod or anything.

this is the error i get on install

Error 1904. Module F:\Program files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll failed to register. HRESULT-2147220473. Contact your support personnel.

    what does that even mean?

I dono what else to say....just any help would mean a lot. Thank You.

This is not an error in iTunes, but actually a problem with your install of Windows. It looks like the simplest way to resolve the problem is to reinstall / replace the MDAC software in Windows (Microsoft Data Access Components).

While this document is targetted at problems with Microsoft Office, it sounds like the EXACT same error you are getting with your iPod, so I presume the resolution should be the same, too:

ok....well i tried installing that, and started completely over with the ipod stuff deleting all traces of the previous install, and also going step by step, directions in hand, and still, no dice.

so then an idea hit me....since the IT helper person from HP said it might be because its not installing right, because my hard drive is labled "F:" Drive for some reason when i made my computer (i think because i had my two CD/DVD Roms, and some memory card reader hooked up) and not "C:" like normal that its trying to install to C: and it cant because it dosent exist so thats why the error comes up.

Well i got a copy of partition magic and made a small partition.....a virtual C: drive, that i was going to install the itunes and all that stuff on so it would work correctly.

this might sound pretty dumb but at 3 in the morning after 3 days of trying to get the "easiest mp3 ever" to install, i was getting desperate.

I made the partition....and i remembered that when my computer starts, it always says booting from C: drive, error, then it boots from the F: i guess.....well now that a C: drive "exists" it thinks it really should boot from it. This is obviously bad because theres nothing on that partition, especially not the OS.

I made rescue floppys, but they arnt really rescuing me, does anyone know how to get my computer back?????

any help, or further info needed, just ask, i will be standing by.

Boot from your original Windows installation CD, then load up the recovery console by pressing "R" at the first blue installation screen you see. Type in your system's administrative password. Then type "fixmbr" and hit enter. Reboot and you should be fine.
    Logic shall prevail.
